What to Expect at Your First Class

The hardest part of yoga is the parking lot. Once you are through the door, someone at the front desk will show you where to put your shoes, where the mats live, and where the water is.

Arrive about ten minutes early. Tell the teacher if anything is bothering you — a cranky knee, a new injury, a rough week. Good teachers plan around that.

During class you will hear options for nearly every pose. Take the one that feels sustainable, not the one that looks impressive. Rest whenever you want.

The last five minutes are savasana. You lie still, the lights come down, and you get a cold lavender towel. Plenty of people tell us this became their favorite part of the week.
