Breathwork sounds mystical until you try it in traffic. Box breathing is the simplest version: inhale for four, hold for four, exhale for four, hold for four. Repeat for two minutes.
What it does is unglamorous and useful — it slows your exhale, which nudges your nervous system out of fight-or-flight. You are not trying to feel blissful. You are trying to feel like a person again.
We open most Deep Stretch classes with two or three minutes of it. Students tell us it is the piece that carries furthest into the rest of the week.
